This palette came out a year ago...but here are my thoughts anyways!
I have been craving the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette for a quite some time. I have always wanted to buy a pink toned set of eyeshadows and this palette seemed just perfect. I have already used these shadows several times and I am fairly enjoying them overall. I really do appreciate that these are very natural shades of pink, and not an intense pop of color. They are subtle pink neutral shadows that could even give a naked effect to pink skintones. For me personally, the pink colors look almost purple when applied to my warm skintone. Overall, these set of eyeshadows give a romantic, girly, and soft look to the eyes.
Dust seems like very pretty pinky bridal shade that would seem perfect for the inner corners of the eyes or the center of the eyelid. However, the glitter particles are TOO chunky and creates a lot of fall out. I absolutely wanted to like this shade, but I can't because the fall outs are that extreme. It is so bad that it gets caught on my sad little eyelashes, and this never happened to me ever before.
Blackheart is a black shadow with gold/magenta pink glitters, which I don't really understand. Black shadows are usually used on the lash-line or the inner corners. I am not a master of makeup, but I know for sure that you don't use dark black shadows on the top of your eyelid or the inner corners. It just seems little off to have magenta glitters mixed in with the black shadow. And when it is applied, you can't really see the glitter anyways, so why put it there?
From the overall picture, there are some definite FLAWS to this palette:
1. Not enough matte shadows. I personally don't mind having a lot of shimmer shadows, but I can see where this can be an annoyance to some people.
2. Shimmer shadows are...not that shimmery. All the shades in here are in between a matte and a shimmer creating a satin like quality (sometimes not even) when applied to the eyes. When swatching it, the glitter shows up very beautifully, but when it goes onto the eyes...you can barely see the shimmer. If I want shimmer, I want shimmer not the stuff that are half way there!!
3. The color range is very narrow. It indeed goes from a highlight shade to black, but everything in between is a blur. Of course, I am not saying that this is bad, but this certainly limits the versatility factor when attempting to create diverse looks. For example. If we were to compare Limit and Nooner, the color of these two are similar besides from the fact that Nooner is a slightly darker version of Limit but there is no stark difference. I can easily use Nooner instead of Limit and Limit instead of Nooner. This also applies to Liar, Factory, and Mugshot as well. These three look slightly different when swatched, but when they are applied to the eyes, they give a similar look.
4. Not enough variety in the lighter shadows. Strange and Dust are the only lighter shades of this palette. You can't use Dust since the fall outs make it so difficult to work with. Then you are stuck with Strange. Strange is a great color, but I personally think any eyeshadow palette need at least more than one highlight shadow.
CONCLUSION:
I don't think that this could be your everyday "basic" palette by anymeans. If you are starting out with makeup or need a basic neutral palette, this is not something that you should get. I recommend the Naked the original one out of all three for those who need a variety of neutral eyeshadows.
However, I am very much enjoying this palette, for I am able to create a feminine look to my eye makeup. This is definitely for those who WANT rosy-toned eyeshadows and already has a basic set of neutral eyeshadows.
