Hello everyone!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! When looking back, this year has been quite rough but exciting for me. I graduated from college and had many wonderful life lessons in terms of relationships and career. Oh and not to forget, I launched my blog SK BEAUTY DIARY! How was your 2014?
Also there were many impressive makeup products that I found this year! I couldn't find the best of the best for every single makeup category, but these are some that I can easily recommend to everyone. So here we go!
BASE
Laneige BB Cushion [Anti-aging]: I am still obsessed with the cushion foundations, especially this one: Laneige BB Cushion Foundation [anti-aging]. I also liked the [whitening] version (which I have a full review on here) during the summer, but this one is even better. I am planning on an extensive review on this product in the future but for now here is a quick preview:
I wouldn't fully label this as a matte foundation, but it is less shiny compared to the [whitening] version, which was completely shiny even with the setting powder. Instead of giving that greasy look, this one gives a subtle hint of glow which is very flattering no matter what skin type you have. In another words, this is more "matte" than the [whitening] version, but it is not completely matte. Also, it has higher coverage than the [whitening], which I desperately need from all those acne breakouts. This is definitely buildable to light to high medium coverage without the heavy-ness of a typical high coverage liquid foundation. Anyway, I'll talk more about it later in my future blog post.
CHEEKS
Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Ginger: I absolutely was obsessed with this blush from beginning of March to August! It was perfect for those warmer days because it gave me a healthy glow without using any shimmer or glitter. This color, Ginger, compliments my very yellow skintone as well. It is mauvy and brown mixed in with pink, which gives my cheeks a very natural liveliness and perkiness. I still use this blush, despite the fact that it is winter, whenever I feel the need to look natural for the occasion. I have worn this blush in one of my previous blog posts: here.
EYES
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Demolition: I have been using a black pencil eyeliner to line my eyes for the longest time, until I saw one blogger use a dark brown liner to give her eyes a cat-eye definition. I was surprised to see that it looked natural but glamorous at the same time. Therefore, I picked up one of these Urban Decay 24/7 liners at Sephora, just to try it out, and... I LOVE it. The color "Demolition" is a matte dark brown which suits my yellow skintone better than using a regular black eyeliner, which can look too harsh at times.
Lancome Definicil Mascara and Cover Girl Clump Crusher Mascara: I have been struggling to find a good drugstore mascara for awhile now. This Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara was one of the mascaras that I had to review for my Drugstore Mascara Week, but I never ended up finishing the series with it. Anyway, using these two mascaras together creates unbelievable look for the lashes. Lancome Definicil provides excellent length and average volume but definitely buildable. Adding Clump crusher afterwards fans out the lashes even more and creates a fake lash-kind of look. The downside is that these two never hold the curl for me. They always end up drooping slightly after application. Nonetheless, these two in combination is very flattering and highly recommended.
LIPS
NARS lipgloss in Sixties Fan: This lipgloss looks quite scary from the tube, but when it is applied, it is more of a darker cherry red hue. I love applying this on my lips when I want to feel little bit more glammed up or sexier or even vampy (LOL). This red lip is not as tricky to put on because it is a lipgloss format, so it does not require a lip liner plus concealer for this red lip. This lipgloss is quite pigmented for a lipgloss, but still maintains that lipgloss reputation for being shiny and translucent.
SKINCARE
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb, and Rosewater: This has been my go to spray for the year of 2014. I do not think this is an excellent spray as a toner or as a substitute for any skincare item, but it is an excellent one for priming and setting your makeup. I use this before makeup application whenever my skin is extra dry instead of applying additional moisturize or cream. It makes my base makeup more blend-able and gives me a smoother canvass. I also spray this generously after I finish my makeup because: 1) gets rid of the powdery look; 2) gives me a luminous and hydrated look that actually stays with me all day. This spray is definitely not for everyone, especially if you prefer a matte look for your foundation routine, but it is $7 dollars which is very inexpensive compared to Fresh rosewater spray ($30 something dollars) and Caudalie's Beauty Elixer ($18-36). If you like rose and spray on toners, I highly recommend you to try this out!
TOOLS
Real Technique Brushes: I highly highly recommend this brush line if you are a beginner or if you need a cheap but great brush set. I have been building my Real Technique Brush collection during the year of 2014, and have converted many around me to purchase them. They are all made out of synthetic hairs which I prefer because its easier to wash them. Also, it does not shed! Not to mention that they look very cute on your vanity. Again, I highly recommend them.
That's a wrap! I hope you had a wonderful year of 2014, and I apologize again for not uploading consistently. I have planned many exciting series for my blog, so please! Stay tuned!
Best,
