FOTD: Korean style inspired makeup look!

Koreans have a complete different makeup practices compared to the West. They focus more on the luminosity of the skin as well as looking natural, fresh, and young as possible. Of course not all of them support this kind of look since the intensity of the look depends on the occasion and on the preferences of the individual. BUT, from my interpretation, majority of the Korean women are little bit more wary about wearing colors, crazy all over the lid glitters, contoured face, and overly flushed cheeks.

Overall the degree of the naturalness can be considered to be higher compared to the Westerners. From what I have seen Korean women focus on foundation or bb creams, eyeliners (very important to them), mascara, false lashes, eyebrows, and perky lips (not overtly unnatural). They don't really care about highly pigmented eyeshadows or super intense lip colors. I think their makeup philosophy is on looking enhanced without looking like they have a lot of makeup on.

My camera does not serve any justice to what my makeup look looked like this day.

Yes, I am a Korean myself and I absolutely love this kind of makeup look. On Saturday, I supported this kind of makeup style by using Korean makeup products and techniques to achieve this kind of natural and girly kind of look.

I used this lip and cheek combo to create that girly but fresh look.

CHEEKS
I used Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in color #12 Plum Mousse Cake. First of all, how CUTE is the name? Seriously made for a princess I swear. And it is not just the name... LOOK. AT. THE. PAKCAGING. I mean just look at the puff. How cute! I would never ever use the puff though. It is not like I can wash that thing you know?

Anyway..rambling aside. This blush looks INTENSE in the pan because of its dark pinky plum hue, but when you actually wear it, it gives you a subtle flush that you can never mess up with. The pigmentation is very sheer but buildable, so you can control the intensity that you want. Don't worry! It is not intimidating at all! It seriously makes you look like you've been frolicking outside in the snow for like 10 minutes when you wear this blush. It also makes you look like a young innocent girl when the blush is only applied to the apples of the cheeks. So lovely.

However, I don't think this is a go to blush for an everyday casual look. I don't personally like this kind of look on me everyday but only once in a while is because it looks little unnatural on my yellow skintone. I personally prefer a coral blush as my go to blush because the way it complements my warm undertones. But this is a good blush to have in your collection since it gives you that option of looking like a little innocent girl once in awhile. Besides, it's really cheap.

LIPS
This lip color was the highlight of this Korean inspired makeup look. Korean women really likes the "gradient lip" look where the inner part of your lips is more highlighted than the outer part, like a popsicle effect.

I used the lipstick Etude House Dear My Jelly Lips Talk in JPK 001. When swatched it looks like a very sheer layer of light baby pink gloss.

But when you actually apply to the lips, it turns into a slightly deeper shade of pink.

This is house I achieved the "gradient lip":

First you have to powder or slightly conceal your lips so that your natural lip color won't show through. Here I applied a little bit of powder left over on my brush.

Then you apply the lipstick just in the inner part of your mouth. As you can see, the color is much more saturated when you actually apply the lipstick to your lips from just swatching it.

Besides from the gradient lip and the innocent looking cheeks, I also tried to make my eyebrows  straight as possible with no arches, which is very popular in Korea as well.

This is not my go to look by any means. I only try this look when I feel like an ogre or anytime I feel I need a little bit of a girly girlness to my life.

Do you personally go for this fresh girly look?

Best,
SK
