Recently, Etude House came out with their Dreaming Swan Collection which include blushes, lipsticks, illuminator, makeup bag, etc. The unique aspect about this line is the packaging more than the product itself. They collaborated with Kerrie Hess, an illustrator that worked with many different high end fashion brand, to create the soft girly images of ballerina related subjects for their packaging.
Of course, as a blush-o-holic, I had to buy some of these blushes. Obviously.
*This swatch panel is straight from their Etude House website*
I own three shades out of the five since #4, the purple, #5, the barbie hot pink, were not really my type of shades, so I only settled for the warmer toned blushes.
#3 Arabasque Rosy (far left), #1 Jete Pink (right), and #2 Pointe Coral (bottom).
#3 Arabasque Rosy (far left), #1 Jete Pink (middle), and #2 Pointe Coral (right).
These blushes come with these puffs that are so so so adorable and girly, but I don't personally use these to apply the product just because I prefer using a proper makeup brush.
Number 1, Jete Pink, is a soft warm baby pink with slight shimmer that gives your cheeks a girly and delicate look. This shade in particular really reminded me of pink tulle ballerina dress that little girls would wear for ballet class. It applies very sheer, so it is hard to apply too much.
I just realized that I look like I am sniffing the can. They don't smell like anything.
#3 Arabasque Rosy
This is a bright matte coral shade that leans more on the red side than pink. This is a very pigmented blush so it can easily make you look like a clown, but when applied with a light hand it gives off a fresh vibrant wide-awake look to your cheeks, which is perfect for the warmer months. I recommend this when you are trying to do a no makeup makeup look and using this only on the apple of the cheeks.
#3 Pointe Coral
This one is my favorite among these three because it is the most natural on my skin. Through the swatch it looks like a highlighter, but when it is on the cheeks, you can see the peachy sheen showing through. This is great when you are trying to achieve that bronzy glow look in conjunction with your bronzer. I wouldn't say this is a matte blush but shimmer is not detectable. Another is that this also applies very sheer. In order to see the actual color, I had to apply this with a very heavy hand.
IN CONCLUSION
I don't personally think this is anything special or unique. Yes, the packaging is very cute which is the reason why I got them, but one of these cost 12 dollars. I almost feel like I am paying for the packaging more than the actual product. I certainly recommend the regular cookie blushes from Etude House more because they are very similar and cost around $6. Yes, these are designed for both eyes and cheeks, but I don't know how often I will want to put bright pinks and corals on my eyelids. So is it worth it?
Also, these wore off very fast, and at the end I saw myself not reach for these as much because these were "too" sheer or too girly. Other than these points, these blushes are wearable for everyday use. I don't regret getting these blushes since they are super adorable, but I much prefer other blush formulations from other companies such as Makeupgeek or NARS.
But then again, they are cute right? But... are they cute enough?
Best,
