Etude House Color in Liquid Lips Review plus Swatches!

Etude House launched these liquid lipstick while I was staying in Korea. Commercials for this lipstick line was literally everywhere: youtube, TV, subways, movie theaters... basically every type of media possible. The model, Krystal from f(x), a singing girl group in Korea, looked so happy and adorable that I HAD to purchase some.

Trust me. If you are as makeup obsessed as I am with the amount of advertisements the company has put out for these, you would most likely end up buying one of these .

Etude House has launched 20 colors for these Color in Liquid Lips which is something to be noted for since Korean brands never do more than 10 or 12 colors for a line. Korean girls really love their cherry red and poppy pink lips, so it isn't a surprise to see this lipstick line be dominated by those two shades. Besides from reds and the pinks, there are not many other colors. There are only two shades of nudes and two shades of vampy dark colors. It is certainly limited in its variety compared to other brands such as MAC or NARS.

These retail for 9500 won which is around $9.50 dollars, so they are quite affordable. I bought them in colors OR 205, a bright orange color, BE 102, mauvy nude, and BE 101, an nudey pink.

From the swatches, they seem amazing with the level of color pigmentation as well as the shine. It is similar to the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks in its idea since the consistencies are more liquid like compared to the standard bullet shaped lipsticks. Also they are so so so pigmented and rich in its color just like the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks.

In terms of shine, the glossy finish disappears and leaves a matte finish to the lips which was little off putting considering the shiny appearance in those commercials.

The applicator is a version of a regular doe-foot applicator, but its very similar to the ones from the YSL Lip in Oil. They are flat and bent and has a little hole in the middle. It is interesting, but I don't know if this makes any difference in the application of the product compared to the others.

When pulling out the wand from the tube, I found it to be little difficult so beware of that.

Here are my lip swatches.

Here I am wearing BE 101 Beige in Caramel which is a classic nude-y pink color. The camera is actually diluting the color because in real life it is definitely more pink than nude.

OR205 Made in Sweet is a straight up orange with a hint of red. I found this little difficult to wear because it was just so bright compared to anything else that I own. I had to sheer this one out by dotting a little bit of the product in the inner part of my mouth then blending them out so it won't look like I just painted my lips with an orange paint. If applied with a heavy hand, it can look very unnatural since this color is so bright and highlightery.

BE102 Beige in Chic is my favorite out of the three. It is the most natural and flattering for my yellow skintone. It looks quite nude in the picture, but in real life it has a strong purple undertone mixed in with the nude pink which is so flattering for an everyday look.

Okay now. Here are the CONS:

1. These are VERY difficult to work with. This is not one of those handbag products because it requires a lip brush, tissue, and a q tip for it to actually look good. Because it is so pigmented and liquidy, it is so easy for it to smudge out of your lip line. I personally want to carry around my lipsticks wherever I go, but I don't think I can ever carry this one around since it is so easy to mess up. Also it gets on your teeth VERY easily. I really hate that.

2. Not long lasting at all because smudges and bleeds so easily. I really expected this to be long lasting because the sales clerk informed me that these stain your lips...but it doesn't have any staining properties.

3. It exaggerates your lip wrinkles because the product gets stuck in between the creases, and highlights the dry flakes. This is such an unattractive look and you know it.

4. These are quite drying. I initially assumed these would have a plush bouncy finish to it, but it has a slick greasy feel to it which is so uncomfortable.

5. They also don't blend out as easily so they look very patchy. I really really hate that.

So in conclusion, I so regret buying these because...I know I won't wear them. So don't get lured in by all the cute advertisements Etude House is producing (as well as the adorable packaging)!!!

I hope you  enjoy this one! Have you tried these Color in Liquid Lips? Have you seen the commercials for these?

Best,
